Design keeps dust, particulates out

May 19, 2010

Want to improve packaging room cleanliness and reduce sanitation time? Dorner Manufacturing's new DustPruf 2300 and 5300 Series conveyors are essentially “dust proof” -- thanks to a streamlined frame design that virtually eliminates all catch points where particulates or debris can collect.

In-plant customer visits helped Dorner engineers recognize that various packaging steps -- as well as corrugate itself -- create dust. Downstream, too, many granular or fine particle products often become airborne only to fall back onto the conveyors during processing.

Dorner says its new 2300 and 5300 Series conveyors, part of the DustPruf™ family, bring the same industry leading ease of automation, flexibility and performance that customers expect from Dorner conveyors -- plus SmartSlot™ technology designed into the frame. The SmartSlot provides all the integration and add on capabilities of a T-slot without the inherent drawbacks of slots that collect contaminants or debris.

Dorner says the DustPruf Series also operates more efficiently in comparison to other competing conveyors, thanks to an FDA-approved, low-friction coating on the bedplate. Reducing the friction between the bedplate and conveyor belt enables the motor to run 20 percent more efficiently - which lowers energy consumption. Subsequently, the load capacity is 20 percent higher as well with the same motor, allowing for more energy savings over a larger horse powered motor. Plus both frames are recyclable aluminum, which helps ensure a cleaner planet.

The new conveyors are ideal in applications that have dust or debris in the environment or require an occasional wipe-down or spot cleaning.

Since the conveyor frame is smooth with no slots, customers can use the patent-pending SmartSlot system of self-tapping screws and a cordless drill to quickly attach any guiding and automation accessories necessary for their application. A small indentation on the conveyor’s frame directs customers to the best place to install these additional components.

For applications involving curves, the DustPruf 5300 Series gives customers the perfect fit. And similar to Dorner’s 5200 QWIK conveyor, the DustPruf 5300 provides the added flexibility for customers to modify the conveyor’s configuration.

What this means to customers is a true cost and time-saving design by being able to modify the conveyor’s length or curve to meet changing line requirements. Customers can change a 90-degree curve that used to go left and make it go right without having to purchase additional components. The SmartSlot system is also featured on the continuous smooth finish on the conveyor’s curves.

Performance specifications of the DustPruf 2300 Series include:

·         Widths between two inches and two feet

·         Lengths up to 24 feet

·         Motor placement at the end or center of conveyor

·         Same gear motors, mounts, drive packages and service parts as the 2200 Series

·         Recyclable aluminum frame

·         Fast five-day delivery from time of order

Performance specification of the DustPruf 5300 Series include:

·         Widths between eight inches and three feet (in two-inch increments)

·         Lengths up to 83 feet

·         End, nosebar, curve and nosebar curve models

·         Speeds up to 260 feet per minute

·         Same gear motors and mounts as the 5200 QWIK conveyor

·         Flexible guiding

·         Recyclable aluminum frame

·         Fast 10-day delivery from time of order

The DustPruf Series also comes with compatible stands with the same streamlined design and the SmartSlot System for fast, easy installation. -- Dorner Manufacturing Corp.
