Peer Foods Group, Inc. plans to invest $5.5 million on a new production facility in Cumberland, Ind., creating up to 80 new jobs this year, according to local media reports.

Chicago-based Peer Foods cooks, smokes and roasts pork, beef, chicken and turkey items for restaurants and foodservice. In addition to the Peer Foods label, the company owns the Mariah brand, and in January 2013, acquired Greenville, Ind.-based Emge Foods, a processed meat producer.

Peer Foods plans to build a 33,000-square-foot plant to add capacity for its fully cooked sausage and hot dog production lines. The new facility may be in operation as early as this summer.
