XTL Inc., a Philadelphia-based logistics firm, announced plans to open a $63 million, fully automated logistics facility in Council Bluffs, Iowa. It is expected to bring in 50 new employees.

The 185,000-square-foot facility sits on 51 acres at the Northwest corner of Highway 275 and South 24th Street.

Plans call for a highly automated facility equipped with robots capable of loading, stacking and retrieving pallets.

“Our intent is to build what I like to call a robotic park,” says Anthony Cerone, chairman. “There are hundreds of these machines in the U.S., but they’re usually attached to companies like Walmart, Target and Tyson Foods.”

This “lights out” warehouse—where lighting is only needed for safety or periodic inspections—will feature robots that see can see in the dark.
