Cloverleaf Cold Storage will offer custom processing and packaging operations at its Sanford, N.C., facility, beginning third quarter of 2012.

Cloverleaf Cold Storage Co., Sioux City, Iowa, will offer custom processing and packaging operations at its Sanford, N.C., facility, starting the third quarter of 2012.

Led by the company’s Farmers Produce division, the new operations will occupy a 40,000-square-foot production facility to be built adjacent to the existing freezer warehouse. It will contain cells for temperature-controlled defrosting utilizing both air and water methods. There will also be production lines for boxing, trimming and inspecting raw meat, as well as lines for specialized packaging and pre‐pricing of finished goods.

"There are any number of places we could expand, but one of the important factors was the help we received from economic development officials and how everyone worked together, including the local and state governments," says Bill Feiges, principal officer for Cloverleaf. "Projects like these are always complicated and risky, especially in a difficult economic environment. We're glad we could bring more jobs, investment and opportunity for everyone."

The Sanford site will become the fourth Farmers Produce custom processing and packaging operation. Cloverleaf currently operates plants in Sioux City, Iowa; Chillicothe, Mo.; and Napoleon, Ohio.
