Fundamentals of Food Grade Grease

Incidental food contact registered greases are commonly used lubricants in food and beverage facilities. There are advantages and disadvantages to grease compared to other types of lubricants. Various base fluid types and thickeners available for grease formulation provide different characteristics to choose from. Bench tests measure these characteristics and help in determining how grease will behave in use. Proper storage, handling, and application considerations are also important for proper use of food grade grease.

Attendees will learn about:

  • Requirements for food grade greases
  • Differences between greases and other lubricant types
  • Considerations for choosing a food grade grease
  • Best practices for grease storage and handling
