We're pleased to provide another information-packed session at CHFA East. Following the popular format created for our recent forum at CHFA West in Vancouver, the session will start with a one-hour, member-only meeting. This will give members time to discuss their core topics of interest with their peers. Lunch will be served promptly at noon with the session resuming at 1:00 p.m., at which time government representatives will provide key updates on a variety of topics.
Our lineup of speakers include:
Irwin Bess, Executive Director, Compliance Promotion Directorate, Canadian Food Inspection Agency;
Dr. William Yan, Director, Bureau of Nutritional Sciences, Food Directorate;
Amanda Moir, Acting Director, Consumer Health Products Modernization, Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate; and,
Stephanie Di Trapani, Manager, Health Product Compliance & Enforcement Unit, Regulatory Operations and Regions Branch.
Anticipating the many changes to the food sector, CHFA is pleased to have both Irwin Bess and Dr. William Yan speak to members. The presentations will address supplemented foods, Health Canada's progress on the reduction of trans-fat and sodium in our food system, and Health Canada's and CFIA's labelling modernization initiatives, which include enhanced sugar labelling. Specific to CFIA, details on the pending Safe Food for Canadian Regulations will be provided, along with details on current import requirements, an overview of the agency transformation plan (including a focus on preventative control plans), new importer requirements (import licensing), and new compliance tools under development, which will help industry prepare for the many changes ahead.
On the NHP front, Amanda Moir and Stephanie Di Trapani will provide an update on the Consumer Health Products Framework, licensing trends, sampling of NHPs and the Compliance Monitoring Project. In addition to these key items, general updates on activities within the directorates will be provided, including consultations on the horizon and staffing updates.
