Sysco Corp., Houston, Texas, broke ground on the expansion at its FreshPoint Dallas facility. FreshPoint is Sysco’s specialty produce company.
Upon completion, the expansion will create approximately 80 new jobs. The project will include an additional 65,000 square feet to the existing 125,000-square-foot building, and will include a number of sustainability initiatives such as two Eco-Safe digesters for tomato waste and LED lighting. The facility will also have a FreshCuts processing and production room for fresh-cut produce, and a system produced by Reyco Systems, Inc., Caldwell, Idaho, that takes waste (core, seeds, skin, etc.) and grinds it for compost.
