Ben E. Keith Foods announces initiative to reduce plastic packaging
The ReadyCycle clamshells will be used for the Markon First Crop 2-pound strawberry containers that Ben E. Keith Foods distributes.
Ben E. Keith Foods, Fort Worth, Texas, announced a plastic reduction initiative, in conjunction with Markon Cooperative Inc., Salinas, Calif., intended to move the produce industry away from single-use plastic.
Ben E. Keith and Markon worked with strawberry grower-partners and Sambrailo Packaging, the Watsonville, Calif.-based maker of ReadyCycle, the cardboard strawberry clamshell, to introduce ReadyCycle clamshells for the Markon First Crop (MFC) 2-pound strawberry containers that Ben E. Keith Foods distributes. The new line of packaging will be applied to strawberry cartons expected to ship in June.
