Shipments up 26% in Q1, mostly to Asia; market share now at 42 percent.

Amid a devastating pandemic that’s crippling economies worldwide, here’s a Port of Oakland (Port) bright spot: meat exports to Asia. the Port said today its meat exports jumped 26% in the first quarter of 2020 over Q1 2019. The Port said it now controls 42% of the market for meat exports leaving U.S. West Coast ports. Its nearest competitor, the Port of Long Beach, has 31% of the market.
The North Carolina State Ports Authority set a new record for refrigerated container volume. North Carolina Ports moved 1,459 refrigerated containers--2,918 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units)--through the Port of Wilmington during the month of April.
The Port of Mobile’s newest refrigerated cargo facility is on track for an early 2021 opening at one of the nation’s fastest growing container ports. The facility is located outside the gates of the seaport’s container terminal operated by APM Terminals and has immediate access to I-10. The distribution center will be one of the largest of its kind in the Southeast. Its proximity to the container terminal and max loading capabilities will not only add value but help customers reduce their carbon footprint by limiting the number of trucks on the road.
TransMap will leverage big data to provide real-time, interactive maps and other geospatial data to help government agencies and the industry plan, build and maintain transportation infrastructure.

Over the next three years, researchers at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Ark., will use a $1.5 million award from the U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administration, Washington, D.C., to develop TransMap, the Transportation and Maritime Analytics Partnerships Hub.
Nonetheless, the trade war is one of the factors impacting forward-looking models.

Volume at major container ports bumped up significantly in November, as retailers imported merchandise ahead of new tariffs set to take effect this month, according to the Global Port Tracker report released by the National Retail Federation, Washington, D.C., and Hackett Associates, Alexandria, Va.
The port will install a solar carport, power storage systems and advanced controls at its security headquarters.

Imports at some of the nation’s major retail container ports grew 7% during 2017, as retail sales continued to increase, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released by the National Retail Federation (NRF), Washington, D.C., and Hackett Associates, Alexandria, Va.
According to figures, the Panama Canal transited a total of 13,548 vessels during its FY17, representing a 3.3% increase compared to totals the year before.

Following the close of its 2017 fiscal year (FY17), the Panama Canal, Panama City, Panama, announced that the waterway welcomed a record 403.8 million Panama Canal tons (PC/UMS) of cargo in FY17, the largest amount of annual tonnage ever transited in its 103-year history.
