ConAgra Foods announced that it will now use post-consumer recycled plastic in its frozen meal trays. The Omaha, Neb.-based processor said it will be the first North American company to do so. The trays contain 30 percent to 40 percent post-consumer recycled plastic and will be used for Healthy Choice, Banquet, Kid Cuisine and Marie Callender's products. A new technology that cleans recycled plastic for further use and is approved by the Food and Drug Administration allows Con Agra to use the recycled material. ConAgra said the new trays will eliminate approximately 8 million pounds of plastic from going to landfills annually.
