Local news media reported thatMcCain Foods USA , Lisle, Ill., told workers in Fort Atkinson, Wis., that the plant's specialty food production line -- responsible for breaded mushrooms, zucchini and other items -- will be closed in August or September. The decision will affect approximately 125 workers.
Fort Atkinson will remain open to process onion rings while specialty appetizer operations transfer to another facility in Appleton, Wis.
"With the economy this year the way it is, it reached a critical mass where we needed to make the right decision for the company as well as our overall workforce," said Scott Bartlett, vice president of manufacturing. "It has to do with the flexibility in the infrastructure and the efficiency we can gain."
