Fresh wholesale bakerSterling Foods II, Inc., San Antonio, Texas, said it purchased frozen bakerCaravan Trading Co., Union City, Calif., for an undisclosed amount.
Officials said family owned Caravan Trading has been one of the West Coast's largest frozen bagel processors. Operating from two plants in Union City, the company also supplies a complete line of frozen sweet bakery goods -- as well as frozen Hispanic pastries, Mexican breads and more -- to wholesale, military, foodservice, and retail channels.
Founded in 1971, Sterling also provides gourmet bakery items to the foodservice, military, and retail channels. the company bakes brownies, cakes, cookies, snack breads, soft pretzels, muffins, scones, pizza crusts, and biscuits. Officials said Sterling is the largest supplier of shelf stable bakery products to the military and also provides products to the K - 12 educational market, weight management industry, and other specialty commercial markets. Its products are sold in nationally recognized restaurant chains, leading supermarkets, and club stores.
Sterling is a portfolio company of TGF Management Corp. andAustin Ventures, both located in Austin, Texas.
