Sterilize Flexible Packaging with Liquid-to-Gas Technology
Performance Packaging of Nevada, Las Vegas, introduced a patented ‘liquid-to-gas’ sterilization process, code-named as “Pixie Dust,” to sterilize flexible packaging.
· Composed of GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) materials.
· Results of process residuals are below the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) “Threshold of Regulation.”
· Sterilization can occur during storage or shipping and is achieved in less than 48 hours at room temperature.
· Use of the pixie dust procedure is smell- and taste-neutral.
This method makes aseptic cold-fill processes possible, as there is no need to irradiate the package or require the post-pasteurization of pouches. Applications include flexible packaging such as standup pouches, bag-in-box and more.
