A M King, Charlotte, N.C., completed a cold storage distribution center in Jefferson, Ga., for ALDI Inc., Batavia, Ill. This is the third project A M King has performed for ALDI at the Jefferson location.

A M King built 55,000 square feet of perishable expansion and renovated more than 100,000 square feet of existing perishable areas. The project also included renovation of the employee welfare areas and additional docks on the backside of the dry warehouse for special buy items. Sustainability initiatives include conversion to LED lighting and installation of a white roof and variable frequency drives on refrigeration equipment.

The most complex part of the project revolved around arranging space to work while accommodating ongoing operations.

“During the perishable renovation process, we removed all interior walls and divided the existing area into seven different sections at varying temperatures to keep the product safe and maintain owner operations,” says Carl Morse, senior project manager for A M King. “There were some sections that had to be set to four different temperatures to maintain schedule and provide enough product storage space.”

Because ALDI requested a fast track on the project to meet required product release dates, A M King designed a standby generator system during construction.
