March 18, 2009
Dairy Briefs: While some businesses are cutting back operations and personnel, one that isn't is Pace Dairy, a 35-year-old cheese processor in Rochester, Minn., reports the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. A private label supplier of shredded, natural chunk and specialty cheeses for Kroger Co., Pace had installed a new shredded cheese line in January and now expects by April to have it running, creating the need for 30 more jobs. By the end of the month, Pace will be operating four lines and running three shifts, the newspaper reported. . . . Cheese processor Sargento Foods Inc., Plymouth, Wis., hired Kate Krier, previously consumer insights manager for MillerCoors, as senior manager of market research for established products. Sargento also hired Brian Rauch as director of pricing and trade management. Rauch formerly was director of trade marketing and customer service for America Dairy Brands, Kansas City, Mo.
