Let's Make a Deal: MegaMex, Allied Dairy in the news

October 7, 2010

LET'S MAKE A DEAL

MegaMex Foods LLC, a Chino, Calif., joint venture between Hormel Foods Corporation and Herdez Del Fuerte, S.A. de C.V., said it completed buying all stock of Don Miguel Foods Corp. from TSG4 L.P., a private equity fund sponsored by TSG Consumer Partners LLC, and private investors.

Don Miguel, Anaheim, Calif., produces frozen and fresh authentic Mexican flavored appetizers, snacks and handheld items. Its portfolio includes tacos, flautas, taquitos, empanadas, burritos, dinners and roller grill items.

“We look forward to the growth Don Miguel Foods will add to the MegaMex Foods portfolio of products,” said Enrique Hernández-Pons Torres, MegaMex chairman. “This brings us closer to achieving our goal of being a Mexican foods one-stop-shop for our customers.”

Dairy Foods magazine reported that Allied Dairy Products, the owner of MCT Dairies, a leading supplier of cheese and dairy ingredients, acquired Trugman-Nash Inc., a New York-based importer and exporter of dairy products. Allied and MCT Dairies will place the assets of Trugman Nash into a newly created company called Trugman Nash, LLC. The acquisition will secure the position of MCT Dairies and its affiliates as being among the nation’s top importers of cheese, butter and dairy ingredients into the United States.

“We are very excited about this acquisition. Trugman-Nash has a reputation of importing only the finest dairy products from Australian manufacturers,” says Ken Meyers, chief executive officer of Allied Dairy Products and MCT Dairies, based in Millburn, N.J. “Our company’s strong domestic and international business relationships have given us unparalleled purchasing power that allows us to assist our customers in product development, sourcing, purchasing, logistics, and inventory management. The purchase of the Trugman-Nash operations will only strengthen our already solid position.”

The Trugman-Nash acquisition will enhance MCT’s domestic distribution of U.S. dairy products and ingredients as well as its distribution of imported dairy products.

“This acquisition is another example of our continued strong commitment to growth and to the U.S. and world dairy industries,” Meyers says. “We believe it will allow us to leverage our strengths as we continue to grow our businesses both through additional acquisitions and organically.”

MCT Dairies has been sourcing and selling domestic and world market cheese, butter and other dairy products domestically and internationally since 1983. The Allied Dairy Products family of companies also includes MCT Manufacturing, Inc., Bella Pak, LLC and Bella Drying, LLC. These affiliates are based in Appleton, Wis., and are engaged in the grating, drying and packaging of cheese and other food products.
