Aryzta AG, Zurich, has combined its U.S. frozen bakery operations and organizations.
Otis Spunkmeyer, Inc. andFresh Start Bakeries (FSB)jointly announced that they would merge FSB’sPennant FoodsandSweet Lifebusiness units with Otis Spunkmeyer, Inc.
“The Otis-Pennant-Sweet Life combination represents a tremendous opportunity to enhance product offerings and service levels to our customers,” said John Schiavo, Otis Spunkmeyer president and CEO.
“The similarities of these businesses are strategically compelling,” added Craig Olson, Fresh Start’s president and CEO. Officials said Olson remains at the helm of FSB’s North American and Global bakery businesses.
Schiavo said officials want to “leverage the best of the combined relationships, products, capabilities and people to create a more competitive enterprise and a strong platform for growth.”

Officials said Pennant and Sweet Life enjoy strong positions as providers of quality frozen bread dough and specialty bakery products to leading restaurant chains, as well as the retail and foodservice channels. Fresh Start Bakeries is a premier supplier of fresh buns, rolls, English muffins, and other bakery products to the QSR, in-store bakery and foodservice industries.
