Cold thermal energy storage system for supermarkets, cold storage facilities
Viking Cold Solutions, Houston, Texas, launched Solar Energy Storage, a bundling of the company’s cold thermal energy storage system with rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) to deliver green, around-the-clock energy management for cold storage facilities and supermarkets.
Viking Cold combines its thermal energy storage system with renewable energy sources to store and deploy refrigeration and reduce renewable variability. The system deploys during peak demand, in the evening or any time of no PV generation. As a result, electricity peak demand is said to be reduced by up to 90%.
This solution also helps stabilize the grid, enabling more intermittent users and suppliers of electricity to safely interconnect and help achieve local mandatory energy storage targets.
