Eye on Operations: Pilgrim's Pride, Dawn Food Products in the news
April 16, 2009
EYE ON OPERATIONS: The Associated Press reported that chicken processing giant Pilgrim's Pride Corp., Pittsburg, Texas, will start procedures to possibly sell two more plants, which were identified earlier to be shut down. This February, the company said it would idle plants in Farmerville, La.; Douglas, Ga.; and El Dorado, Ark. Although the deal has yet to be finalized, Pilgrim's Pride then agreed in March to sell its Farmerville plant for $80 million to competitor Foster Farms and the state of Louisiana. Now under U.S. Bankruptcy Court guidance, Pilgrim's Pride now has until mid-May to solicit offers for the Georgia and Arkansas plants. . . . Media reported that Dawn Food Products Inc., Jackson, Mich., plans to close its frozen donut processing plant in Ossian, Ind., this June. Dawn supplies frozen bakery products, mixes and other ingredients to in-store and foodservice bakeries.
