Pilgrim's Pride Corp., Pittsburg, Texas, said it will idle three of its 32 U.S. chicken processing plants by mid-May as part of a corporate restructuring plan. The move halts production in Douglas, Ga.; El Dorado, Ark.; and Farmerville, La.; and will affect approximately 3,000 workers. Officials says the move should yield annualized net savings of $110 million and reduce the company's total production (measured in pounds) by 9 to 10 percent. . . . Tyson Foods Inc., Springdale, Ark., confirmed that it will hire as many as 180 workers in Glen Allen, Va., where the company's deli meat plant is installing a new production line.
