Sara Lee Foods expects in December to complete a 131,610-square-foot addition at the company's Chicago-area mixing center. The expansion in Rochelle, Ill., will include 82,060 square feet of additional freezer space; 31,050 square feet of additional blast chill / convertible space; and another 18,500 square feet of temperature controlled dock space. The Tippmann Group, Fort Wayne, Ind., is handling the project. Total Logistic Control, Holland, Mich., manages the operation.
Following its expansion into south Florida this February, ice cream processor Blue Bell Creameries, Brenham, Texas, has now purchased land near Delray Beach to build a 12,500-square-foot distribution center.
Wholesaler Tony's Fine Foods said it expects by next summer to complete a $15 million expansion and renovation involving new offices, a new freezer and automated distribution center at its West Sacramento, Calif., headquarters. The project includes a 77,000-square-foot facility to house the new freezer and distribution center.
Universal Companies, Lincoln, Neb., said it expects by October to complete a $7 million expansion at its Lincoln warehouse. A 72,000-square-foot addition will house 15,000 more pallet positions, 14 more loading dock doors and space to hold nearly 700 semi-truck loads of product, officials said.
