The trū Shrimp Co., an affiliate of Ralco, Balaton, Minn., announced plans to build its first shrimp production facility in Madison, S.D. Construction is expected to break ground this summer.

“We are excited to be working with the City of Madison and the Lake Area Improvement Corp. in bringing safe and sustainable shrimp to the U.S. consumer,” says Michael Ziebell, president and CEO.  “Though we’re headquartered in Minnesota, trū Shrimp is truly a Midwest company. Building our first Harbor in Madison reaffirms our commitment to the broader region.”

trū Shrimp’s advanced technology is designed to raise shrimp in a near natural and disease-free environment. trū Shrimp calls its facilities “harbors” to reflect the way its shrimp is raised, free of chemicals and antibiotics. trū Shrimp’s processes enable shrimp to grow in shallow water that is cleaned and reused.

In August 2017, trū Shrimp formed a strategic partnership with Schwan’s Co., Bloomington, Minn., to help propel in-land shrimp production forward.
