Tyson Foods announced it would strengthen the benefits it offers its fully vaccinated U.S. frontline team members. Effective January 1, 2022, fully vaccinated team members can begin earning up to 20 hours of paid sick leave per year. New hires will also receive one week of vacation after six months of employment.
Tyson Foods will invest $300 million to construct a 325,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art production facility in Cane Creek Centre, an industrial park jointly owned by the City of Danville and Pittsylvania County in Virginia. The new facility will be used primarily for the production of fully cooked Tyson products like Any’tizer Snacks and Chicken Nuggets. The company has committed to purchasing 60 million pounds of Virginia-grown chicken over the next three years. Virginia successfully competed with North Carolina for the project, which will create 376 new jobs.
Perdue Farms, through its Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, has awarded a $30,000 grant to Moveable Feast to help purchase a new delivery vehicle for its Home Delivered Meals program on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The donation is part of Perdue’s “Delivering Hope To Our Neighbors” hunger relief initiative.

Cargill, Continental Grain Company, and Sanderson Farms have reached a definitive agreement for a joint venture between Cargill and Continental Grain to acquire Sanderson Farms for $203 per share in cash, representing a total equity value for Sanderson Farms of $4.53 billion. The purchase price represents a 30.3% premium to Sanderson Farms’ unaffected share price of $155.74 on June 18, 2021, the last full trading day prior to media speculation about the potential sale of Sanderson Farms; a 22.8% premium to the Sanderson Farms 30-day volume weighted average price as of June 18, 2021, and a 15.2% premium to the all-time high share price as of June 18, 2021. Upon completion of the transaction, Cargill and Continental Grain will combine Sanderson Farms with Wayne Farms, a subsidiary of Continental Grain, to form a new, privately held poultry business.
