Port of Mobile Reports 37% Increase in Refrigerated Container Volumes in 2021

Containerized cargo volumes at the Port of Mobile continue to climb in 2021 as shippers seek uncongested gateways servicing key North American markets, according to those at the Port. In August, container volume through the Port increased 34% over August 2020 volume, while year-to-date volume posted 27% over the same period last year. Part of that success is tied to a 37% increase in refrigerated containers due to nearly $74 million in refrigerated facilities investment at the Port to support cold cargo supply chains.

Providing essential support to the growing needs of refrigerated transporters serving the food distribution and agricultural industries in California’s Inland Empire region, Carrier Transicold of Southern California (CTSC) has opened a new 42,000-square-foot service facility. The modern 12-bay facility is the largest of CTSC’s three locations in Southern California. Situated on a 6.5-acre parcel located at 2610 Rubidoux Blvd., Jurupa Valley, near the confluence of I-215 and California highways 60 and 91, the new CTSC location provides convenient access to trucking fleets and owner-operators throughout the busy transit corridor.

The North Carolina State Ports Authority set a new record for refrigerated container volume. North Carolina Ports moved 1,459 refrigerated containers--2,918 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units)--through the Port of Wilmington during the month of April.
