PATENT FOR PASTEURIZATION SYSTEM

Unitherm Food Systems received U.S. Patent No. 9,215,892 B2 for its new method of pasteurizing the surface of food products. The new machine uses a flame tube to remove the skin and outer layer of an onion before it passes through a cold bath to cool. The pasteurized and washed product is said to retain the same color and flavor of the original product, while increasing yield and reducing the risk of contamination.

GLUE-AND-LOCK-STYLE CARTON/TRAY FORMER

Bradman Lake launched a variant of the 3-axes servo, HSS double head, glue-and-lock-style carton/tray formers in a single-head version, which is smaller in footprint and more adaptable for lower-speed applications. Features include a servo motor-powered vacuum carton feed bar that extracts carton blanks from the front of the carton magazine and positions them onto the flat deck shuttle mechanism, and a redesigned carton or tray plunger that allows for fast-forming speeds up to 60 cartons or trays per minute. The carton blanks are shuttled forward and gripped at each side to ensure precise positioning of glue and consistent location above the carton plunger cavity. Hot melt glue is fired downwards with precise accuracy. Lock erect-style cartons can also be handled by turning off the glue firing. Hot melt or lock corner cartons/trays can be handled on the same machine.
