To celebrate the start of National Hot Dog Month (July), the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council (NHDSC), Washington, D.C., announced the winner of its t-shirt slogan contest.

“Hot Dogs: Relish the Moment” was America's top choice for the council’s slogan, beating seven other finalists in a Facebook poll. Gadi Lefkowitz of Baltimore, Md., who submitted the winning slogan, received a $250 gift certificate to the grocery store of his choosing and a custom designed t-shirt with his slogan immortalized on it.

Contest runner-ups were:

1st runner up: “Make the Dog Days of Summer a Footlong” by Joe Lilli

2nd runner up: “We Know How the Sausage Gets Made” by Susan Schonfeld

Both runner-ups received $150 and $100 gift certificates, respectively, to their favorite grocery store along with a t-shirt featuring their slogan.

Altogether the contest drew more than 225 unique entries from around the country.

"The creativity and enthusiasm of hot dog fans is nothing short of amazing," says Janet Riley, president and “Queen of Wien.” "Just as there are millions of ways to top a hot dog and everyone has their favorites, there were almost too many good slogans to choose from and the online voting was very tight."
