Butterball eyes more cutbacks

Citing feed ingredient costs, Butterball LLC, Raleigh, N.C., said it will eliminate 265 more jobs at its Longmont, Colo., plant and cease turkey slaughtering operations there. The move follows a June announcement that cut 143 plant positions, effective this past Monday. In a conference call with investors, C. Larry Pope, president and CEO for Butterball parent, Smithfield Foods Inc., said the commodity grain market is "staggering to us on a daily basis."
