April 4, 2008
Cargill Value Added Meats (CVAM), Wichita, Kan., said it purchased certain assets of Willow Brook Foods, a Springfield, Mo., competitor involved in both meat and turkey processing. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. A business unit of Cargill Meat Solutions, CVAM said it expects within four to six months to transfer Willow Brook's Missouri-based processing to CVAM plants in California, Mo., and Springdale, Ark. As many as 780 Willow Brook employees would have an opportunity to relocate with those jobs, CVAM said. Meanwhile, CVAM said it will maintain Willow Brook's contract turkey production and Butterfield, Mo., feed mill, as well as a cooked meat plant in Albert Lea, Minn.
