Merchants Terminal Corp., Baltimore, said it has purchased land to build a 12 million-cubic-feet temperature-controlled distribution center adjacent to the Port of Baltimore's Seagirt Marine Terminal. A Phase One building will feature 6.1 million cubic feet of temperature controlled space with 16,300 specialized pallet positions. The warehouse has rail service and may be accessed by two entrances to Interstate 95 within a half-mile of the facility.
"The location of the Chesapeake Commerce Center . . . was almost too good to be true," said MTC President Harry Halpert. "We will be able to offer our customers a location with multi-modal transportation access through the East Coast's most inland port."
Officials noted the MTC's new site -- the company's fifth location -- also will feature green technology and construction materials.
MTC is a business of Hoffberger Holdings Inc., a privately held investment company.
