Fresh, further prepared foods will star in "Simply Good Meals," a national ready meals merchandising program rolling out from SuperValu Inc., Minneapolis.
The nation's third largest grocery retailer said it will start introducing in-store meal kiosks -- placing two in the produce area, one in the meat section and one in the deli department. Some stores also will have additional meal and soup destinations in the deli area. Officials said one of the destination displays will be branded as "4:15" and feature a selection of items that allow busy moms to create a good, easy home-cooked meals for a family of four for under $15 and, in many cases, in 15 minutes or less.
Offerings will range from a ready-to-heat beef roast, potatoes and a salad; lasagna, salad and French baguette; to pork teryaki tenderloins, a side dish and salad. Meal solutions -- complete with preparation instructions -- will initially change every other week, ensuring a variety of different menus.
SuperValu will roll out the program to its family of stores including Acme, Albertsons, bigg's, Cub Foods, Farm Fresh, Hornbacher's, Jewel-Osco, Lucky, Shaw's/Star Market, Shop 'n Save and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy.
