Citing strong demand for fresh, boneless chicken, Sanderson Farms, Inc., Laurel, Miss., is considering plans to build a deboning plant in Goldsboro, N.C., according to Chairman & CEO Joe Sanderson Jr. Commenting on the company's second quarter financial results, Sanderson noted, "...Progress continues on our new Kinston, N.C., complex, and we placed our first breeder flock in April. The plant is on schedule to begin processing chickens in January of next year.
"As announced in March, we also look forward to the next phase of our growth, which is our plans for the construction of a new big bird deboning facility in Goldsboro, N.C., subject to previously announced contingencies. Together, the two North Carolina plants will add 30 percent more capacity and support our growth through 2014."
The New Castle, Del., News Journal reported that poultry processor Allen Family Foods, Seaford, Del., agreed to sell its Hurlock, Md., chicken production complex and a Delmar, Del., feed mill to Amick Farms LLC, Batesburg-Leesville, S.C.
"This sale allows both companies to move forward with their strategic business plans; Allen’s as a premier retail supplier of retail deli and tray pack products, and Amick as a high efficiency large bird deboner,” said Bob Turley, Allen Family Foods president and CEO.
