Eye on Operations: Pilgrim's Pride okays La. deal; new bakery in Pa.
After several rounds of reported negotiations, Pilgrim's Pride Corp., Pittsburg, Texas, said it agreed to sell its Farmerville, La., chicken complex for $80 million to Foster Farms, Livingston, Calif. The deal is subject to antitrust review as well as approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Farmerville was one of three operations that Pilgrim's Pride had slated to close. The operation includes a processing facility, cook plant, hatchery, feed mill, protein conversion plant and associated inventory. . . . Always Bagels Inc., Bohemia, N.Y., expects by this fall to build a 68,000-square-foot frozen bagel plant in Lebanon, Pa. Upon completion, the operation will have a operating capacity of about 625,000 bagels per day, officials said.
