The Dallas Morning News reported that Dallas-based Dean Foods Co. expects by next spring to renovate and expand a vacant, 190,000-square-foot building in Dallas to produce such WhiteWave products as Horizon organic milk, Silk soy milk, Land O' Lakes dairy products and International Delight non-dairy creamers.
Former Vice Chairman Pete Schenkel told the paper that Dean needs additional production capacity and that the Texas market is strong. Dean purchased the 18 acre-site and building in 2006. Officials say they intend to expand it to 287,000 square feet.

In other news, Dean announced last month that it is seeking a buyer for its milk processing, selling, marketing and distribution business located in Waukesha, Wis. The company agreed to sell the plant and related business as part of the March 29, 2011, settlement agreement reached with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the States of Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. The divestiture includes the 170,000-square-foot fluid dairy processing facility and equipment, the Golden Guernsey(R) and La Vaca Bonita(R) brands, and other related assets.
