The Associated Pressreported that dairy giantDean Foods, Dallas, plans in mid August to halt processing operations at itsLouisTrauth Dairyplant in Newport, Ky.

A  spokesperson said Dean will retain 190 people at the site for the cooler, freezer, sales, administration and distribution activities. However, approximately 80 people will lose production jobs. Founded in 1920, Trauth produces milk, ice cream and frozen novelties, cultured products, juices and drinks.

Dean said the cost-cutting move was necessary to be "as efficient as possible."
