Bakery Briefs: Gonnella, Main Street, Benson's in the news
COLD BAKERY BRIEFS
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that Akron's Main Street Gourmet was purchased by Clover Capital Partners LLC. Terms were not disclosed. A supplier of frozen muffins, brownies, cookies and and other desserts to all channels, Main Street Gourmet has annual sales of $20 million to $45 million, officials said. Clover Capital is a private equity investor with offices in Evanston, Ill. (Chicago), and Los Angeles.
Chicago's Daily Herald suburban newspaper said Gonnella Frozen Products, Schaumburg, Ill., would like to build a 30,298-square-foot addition to its 66,000-square-foot frozen dough products bakery in Schaumburg. Officials said the addition would house new freezer and dry storage space so that Gonnella would not have to lease outside freezer storage.
The Athens (Ga.) Banner-Herald reported that frozen cake and dessert baker Benson's Inc., Bogart, Ga., purchased seven acres adjacent to its Bogart facility. Officials said they may use the vacant property -- formerly owned by Athena Carpet -- for warehouse space to free up freezer capacity.
