Bagging, Weighing & Case Packing Equipment

WATER-ACTIVATED TAPE CASE SEALER

Schneider Packaging Equipment introduced the 5000WAT case sealer, which is a tamper-evident, water-activated tape that actually penetrates the cardboard substrate and bonds to paper fibers, making the most secure seal possible. The 5000WAT uses a servo-driven sensing head to measure box heights and dramatically increase case throughput. It automatically indexes random-size cases from a powered infeed conveyor, folds all top flaps and applies recyclable, pilfer-resistant tape to the top and bottom of the case. Designed for 24/7 duty, the 5000WAT seals up to 12 cases per minute and includes complete interlocked safety guarding and low tape roll supply detectors for quick and easy changes.

COMPLETE PACKAGING SOLUTION

Eagle Packaging Machinery teamed up with WeighPack Systems to custom build a complete packaging solution that fills and seals stand-up pouches, erects, loads and seals cases and then palletizes for ship-ready containers. The system consists of WeighPack’s auger filler and horizontal bagger and Eagle’s Boxxer T12 case erector, automatic drop packer, EZ-Tape case sealer and Z.Zag palletizer. The Boxxer T12 erects and tapes 12 cases per minute, then transfers to the box indexing machine. The box indexer ensures cases are ready and waiting for the signal that the bags can be loaded. While cases are formed and indexed, product is weighed and filled into stand-up pouches. Bags are then indexed and arranged in alternating patterns in preparation for case loading. Once the case is in position, bags drop directly into the case. The full box is then transferred to the EZ-Tape case sealer. Once the sealed case exits the system, it is picked up by the Z.Zag palletizer and transferred to a pallet ready for shipping.

CARTONER WITH ROBOTIC INFEED

Douglas Machine’s robotic pick-and-place infeed eliminates over 30 star wheel change parts and manual adjustment points, thus reducing changeover by 20 minutes for single-serve cup applications. Integrated with the company’s Vectra cartoner, the dual Fanuc M-3iA Delta robots allow for greater machine access, improved sanitation and increased machine efficiency.

MAIL ORDER FULFILLMENT SYSTEM

Automated Packaging Systems introduced the Autobag850S, which marries state-of-the-art engineering and superior ergonomics to create a mail order fulfillment system with a small footprint. The Autobag850S runs bags up to 22 inches wide, and features innovative bag opening technology that grabs and securely grips the bag in load-ready position. An AutoTouch control screen provides quick access to job setup parameters, on-board diagnostics, data retrieval, performance monitoring and a help system with operator tutorials. A compact thermal transfer imprinter is positioned in line with the next bag to be loaded and prints high-resolution graphics, text, barcodes and personalized data directly onto the bag. Plus, the Autobag850S fully integrates with customer databases for personalized 1:1 mail order fulfillment packing and shipping. Bag size changeovers are accomplished in less than five minutes with simplified threading and a new tension control system that automatically centers and monitors the film throughout the bagging process.

VERSATILE CHECKWEIGHER

Ishida DACS-G checkweighers from Heat and Control provide two weight ranges for verifying the package weight or content count of a wide variety of products. The Force-Balance sensor has a minimum graduation of 0.01 grams and delivers accurate checkweighing for up to 600 packages per minute. Ishida’s digital high-output load cell has a minimum graduation of 0.05 grams and quickly stabilizes weight to achieve speeds up to 440 packages per minute. Ishida’s proprietary 3D digital filter eliminates noise interference based on product size, weight and speed. And, real-time weighing data can be saved and managed using a personal computer.

COMBINATION SHRINK SYSTEM

Heat Seal launched new HDX models HDX350 and HDX2 50 combination shrink systems, both equipped with an advanced RS-5 Plus digital controller, an easy-to-use operator interface, an auto-tensioning film cradle and heavy duty sealing arm that houses a hot knife exact seal system for any film type and size areas. Featuring a patent-pending design that focuses on air flow and temperature control, the shrink tunnels boast an 8-inch high tunnel opening and multiple belt options for specific application needs. The HDX combination L bar sealer and shrink tunnel systems have a unique package centering system, where the seal and tunnel conveyor move vertically in tandem.

VFFS BAGGER WITH ULTRASONIC TECHNOLOGY

Triangle Package Machinery’s Models XYS08 and XYM11U vertical form-fill-seal baggers now come with an optional ultrasonic back seal and ultrasonic cross seal. Ideal for leafy produce, cheese and other industries that require 100% seal integrity for an airtight product, these ultrasonic seals can be as narrow as 2 mm, saving 50-80% in the sealing area alone. Ultrasonic sealing also requires less headspace, thanks to its ability to seal through food particles, and significantly reduces leakers and rejects due to product in the seal. The X-Series VFFS baggers offer flexibility to seal bags with heat sealing and feature quick changeover of forming tubes, film rolls and sealing jaws, allowing users to run supported or unsupported film and multiple bag sizes and speeds.
