New Refrigeration Controls & Equipment

July 16, 2015

SCROLL COMPRESSOR

BITZER’s new ORBIT 6 scroll compressor offers a delivery rate of 840-1,620 CFH (60 Hz), with a cooling capacity of 137-261 kBtu/h at 60 Hz, suitable for air conditioning systems and heat pumps. The ORBIT 8 series was designed for the R410A refrigerant, with a delivery rate of 1,260-3,300 CFH (60 Hz) and operating noise levels up to 3 dB(A) lower than comparable compressors, according to the company.

PACKAGED AMMONIA REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

EVAPCO launched the Evapcold Packaged Refrigeration System, a factory-assembled, low-charge ammonia refrigeration system that requires just 2.5-3 pounds of ammonia per ton of refrigeration for an entire system. Consisting of self-contained ammonia refrigeration rooftop systems designed to ship in 1- or 2-piece modules, the Evapcold product offers simple plug-and-play installation and quick startups and includes several state-of-the-art innovations in heat transfer technology, energy efficiency and microprocessor control.

SCREW COMPRESSOR

GEA Refrigeration North America introduced new GMX series of screw compressor packages. These four new GMX packages offer swept volumes from 335-618 CFM with great clean-out-of-place, both at full- and part-load operation, and new, user-friendly GEA Omni control panels with high-definition, multi touchscreens. Variable speed operation ranges from 1,450-4,200 rpm. And, the suction design features a hot gas-activated check valve designed to eliminate chatter and optimize minimal pressure drop.

SYSTEM CONTROLLER

Frick by Johnson Controls introduced the new Quantum HD unity system controller, dubbed the 24/7 virtual refrigeration operator. Users can easily navigate from vessel to evaporator to engine room to condenser control by touching the product banner at the top of the screen and selecting the next step. Ideal for cold storage applications, this refrigeration system reduces energy and provides on-time delivery for heating, cooling and other space conditioning needs.

EVAPORATIVE CONDENSER

SGS Refrigeration and SPX Cooling Technologies joined forces to develop the new Marley Cube Series of forced draft and induced draft evaporative condensers. The cube represents the power of the three elements—quality, responsiveness and partnership. The heavy duty galvanized steel structure includes submerged areas that are bolted or welded, and welded areas are hot dip galvanized. It features the Marley Geareducer drive for lowest maintenance, triple-pass inlet louvers to control splash out and sunlight exposure to basin, dual U-bolt fan hub design to reduce de-pitching and potential vibration, TEFC fan motors and sound-reduction options.

OUTDOOR AIR-COOLED CONDENSER

Mokon released its new line of outdoor air-cooled condensers, designed to use the outdoor ambient air temperature to cool the refrigerant high vapor pressure in the chiller refrigeration loop. Condensing coils are available in single or multiple circuit applications and multiple fan configurations. Venturi motor mounts and fan guards are epoxy coated for corrosion protection.

SELF-CONTAINED REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

ALTA Refrigeration debuted the EXPERT refrigeration system, a robust, self-contained system manufactured with industrial-grade equipment, piping and materials. Each unit is equipped with an onboard power monitoring system that validates the efficiency of each unit. It also offers an alternate solution to using ammonia as a refrigerant without sacrificing power savings, increasing maintenance costs, decreasing reliability or reducing equipment longevity.

HYBRID CHILLER

Berg Chilling Systems introduced the Hybrid Chiller, which provides refrigeration during hot weather and 100% free cooling during cooler weather. The Hybrid Chiller includes all the necessary monitoring and controls, and is mounted on a rugged steel frame that is designed and manufactured based on the specific project’s needs. The System Manager optimizes system performance to ensure seamless blending of active and free cooling year-round. Quality assurance testing is completed under design conditions before delivery, ensuring fewer issues during startup and commissioning. Plus, these Hybrid Chillers can be designed with independent refrigeration circuits that can provide any required level of redundancy for compressors and fan motors, and can be built as a packaged chiller with standby pumping.

ONLINE PROCESS SAFETY, RISK MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

Innovative Refrigeration Systems released ePSM, a cloud-based platform designed to take the guesswork out of OSHA’s Process Safety Management and EPA’s Risk Management. ePSM streamlines compliance requirements with an online, always accessible system that tracks and manages process hazard analysis, compliance audit, managements changes, hot work permits, line breaks, mechanical integrity and inspections and quantities of highly hazardous chemicals. It offers unlimited storage and users, no additional fees and is 100% electronic and available from any web browser, including smartphones and tablets.

TOOL HELPS LIMIT CO2 EMISSIONS

Emerson Climate Technologies released its Life Cycle Climate Performance (LCCP) online calculator, designed to limit CO2 emissions for supermarket designers and engineers. This web-based tool allows users to compare different supermarket system architectures with various refrigerants, and calculates annual power, total annual CO2 emissions and peak power. Plus, multiple system types can be analyzed, including centralized direct expansion, distributed, cascade, secondary and booster CO2.
