United States Cold Storage (USCS), Voorhees, N.J., purchased the warehouse and assets of CFC Logistics Inc. from Clemens Food Group. Terms were not disclosed.

CFC Logistics is a cold storage warehouse and logistics business based in Quakertown, Pa., a strategic location for customers requiring Northeast market access. The facility is located 12 miles south of Allentown, Pa., and provides instant access to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstates 78 and 80.

The CFC Logistics operation, dubbed “Quakertown West,” represents USCS’ fifth location in Pennsylvania.

“United States Cold Storage is not known for acquisitions, but this was a logical fit for several reasons,” says David Harlan, USCS president and CEO. “The way CFC Logistics managed its business, culture and customer service is similar to USCS. It was the perfect fit. Secondly, this deal gives USCS the ability to continue to grow in one of our key markets.”

The CFC Logistics warehouse includes a 250,000-square-foot multi-temperature freezer/cooler facility with 6.7 million cubic feet of storage capacity. It has 25,000 racked pallet positions, 240 pallets of blast-freezing capacity and 33 dock doors. Facility services include cooler/freezer storage, consolidated distribution services, blast freezing and export handling.

“This acquisition to our Pennsylvania group of warehouses gives United States Cold Storage the ability to add significantly more density to an already robust transportation program,” adds Steve Cunningham, USCS vice president, Northeast region. “It is a perfect complement to our recently opened Quakertown East facility, and will allow for operational synergies and collaboration.”
