The partnership positions the company to continue building on its 100+ year history of delivering healthy and convenient specialty protein products to a growing base of retailers and consumers across the U.S.
Kingswood Capital Management, LP has acquired Branding Iron Holdings, an industry-leading provider of branded and private label protein products, including beef and pork, with a core focus on frozen and refrigerated ground meats.
The center will house pilot lines for cell cultivation and precision fermentation, bridging the gap between benchtop and commercial production of alternative proteins.
The fish products made from the cell mass, such as fish sticks or fish balls, are both GMO-free and free from heavy metals and microplastics often found in wild-caught fish. They are similar to conventional products in terms of taste, nutritional content, and cooking behavior.
Smithfield Foods donated more than 38,000 pounds of protein to Feed More as part of the Heart of Virginia Council of the Boy Scouts Of America Scouting for Food annual food drive. As the presenting sponsor of this year's food drive, Smithfield also donated $15,000 earlier this year to cover the costs of the BSA program. Local Scout troops were able to collect almost 60,000 pounds of food this year, the equivalent of nearly 50,000 meals which Feed More will distribute across 29 counties and five cities in Central Virginia.
