In 2014, Refrigerated Foods Association (RFA) proclaimed July as National Deli Salad Month. This designation has been officially recognized and established and each year, throughout the month of July, food manufacturers promote and feature such summer staples as potato salad, macaroni salad, dips, chilled desserts, protein salads, ready-to-eat sandwiches and more. 

Urban Pie Pizza Co. is introducing a first of its kind pizza made with hemp seeds to the frozen pizza aisle. Urban Pie Pizza is one of the fastest growing brands in the mainstream and natural channels, and these hemp-infused crusts are a first in the frozen aisle. Their artisan crust made with hemp seeds brings functional ingredients to a well-loved household staple – frozen pizza.

Lee Kum Kee, a leader in authentic Asian sauces and flavors partnered with the largest Asian dining concept in the U.S.--Panda Express--to prepare over 1,000 bowls for the health care staff on the front lines treating COVID-19 patients at St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, California; Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital in Los Angeles; and Dignity Health California Hospital in Los Angeles. Lee Kum Kee is gathering members of their volunteer team to help distribute these bowls on site and to make sure that each frontline staff member receives a meal. 

Jan Glass succeeded Dr. Juergen Kuske as Chief Financial Officer of the Optima Group on May 1, 2020.  As a result, in collaboration with Hans Buehler, the Managing Director, he is taking over the management of the central departments at the company.

IMA Dairy & Food, whose equipment solutions comprise the long-established brands Gasti, Hamba, Hassia and Erca, has introduced two new packaging machines. The first is a fill-seal unit featuring highly flexible, user-friendly operations, the second a four-sided sachet machine incorporating novel single-sided production.   

To address concerns about the introduction and spread of COVID-19 at customer workplaces, Hyster-Yale Group is introducing a virus safety initiative for lift trucks.  Developed in partnership with its nationwide dealer network for the company’s Yale and Hyster lift truck brands, HY-Shield Clean is a lift truck sanitization program designed to help keep facility personnel safe during all aspects of forklift activity, including daily operation and service calls.

Brynwood Partners announced its newly-formed portfolio company, Buitoni Food Company, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the North American Buitoni business from Nestlé USA, Inc. The transaction, which includes a 240,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Danville, Virginia, is expected to close within the next 30 days, subject to customary U.S. regulatory review. Terms and conditions of the deal are not being disclosed.

EnerSys will once again unite with the Industrial Truck Association (ITA) to support the annual National Forklift Safety Day. Now in its seventh year, this special day will be held on June 9, 2020, and serves as an important reminder in keeping the safety of forklift operators top of mind. This year’s event carries even greater importance due to the global crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, as supply chain operations are in overdrive to ensure the flow of products and resources in all industries across the nation.  

¡Yo Quiero! Brands has opened a new 45,000-square-foot distribution facility in Rhome, Texas (near Dallas) as well as a new facility in Guanajuato, Mexico (near León). The brand, which focuses on small-batch guacamole, salsa and queso products, is moving further into in the avocado and high-pressure processing (HPP) industries. 

Cooper Farms is donating $500 to The Ohio Association of Foodbanks as a part of team member and social media outreach. The company is also donating another 25,200 dozen eggs to foodbanks in Lima and Toledo, to provide much needed protein. This donation comes just weeks after a donation of nearly 6,000 pounds of turkey and two truckloads of eggs to the association.
