From a demographic standpoint, nearly half of consumers (48%) living in an urban area have ordered groceries online, while 25% and 19% of respondents living in suburban or rural regions have done so, respectively.

Valassis, Livonia, Mich., released findings from its newest research report, “Unpacking the Dynamic Online Shopper: Grocery & Retail,” which highlights modern grocery consumers’ behaviors and habits, as well as ways in which brands and retailers can attract them.
Men also plan out their meals prior to shopping and turn to outside resources when doing so.

Inmar, Winston-Salem, N.C., surveyed 2,000 online grocery shoppers, 45% of which were men, to better understand their motivations, major concerns and overall mindset when it comes to purchasing groceries online.
One of the findings when comparing current study findings to last year's results was the increased purchasing levels of fresh food items based on online grocery shoppers indicating which supermarket type items they buy online.

About half of online shoppers plan to purchase grocery items more often in the coming year, according to a study released by the Retail Feedback Group (RFG), Lake Success, N.Y.
Most of the market’s growth has occurred since 2016, as e-commerce platforms and conventional grocery stores increased their participation and geographic footprint with expanded service areas.

Online grocery sales more than tripled between 2013-2018, but, between 2018-2023, online grocery sales will more than quadruple, according to “Online Grocery Shopping in the U.S., 2nd Edition,” a report published by Packaged Facts, Rockville, Md.
About one-third of Americans (32%) shop for groceries in person more than once a week, about half (49%) shop once a week and 18% go less often than that.

Despite a profusion of online services that offer Americans an alternative to spending time in the grocery store, 84% of U.S. adults report they never order groceries online and 89% never order meal preparation kits, according a poll conducted by Gallup, Washington, D.C.
