United States Cold Storage, Voorhees, N.J., said it expects by July 2009 to open the first phase of a new refrigerated and frozen food distribution center in Turlock, Calif., in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley. Officials said the 5 million-cubic-foot facility -- just off the north-south Highway 99 corridor -- will feature three convertible rooms (+35F to -5F) and be served by an enclosed, refrigerated receiving and shipping dock. The facility will offer blast freezing, order selection, specialized packaging, labeling and other custom services in addition to PDQ LTL freight consolidation, EDI and online inventory access. Located on a 43-acre site, Turlock will have a build-out capacity of 24 million cubic feet.
