Ampac Recognized for Tesco Soup Pouch

The Flexible Packaging Association, Linthicum, Md., recognized Ampac’s Tesco soup pouch for its Printing Achievement.

The pouch, produced in Ampac’s Kirchberg, Switzerland, facility, was printed flexographically versus rotogravure, which provides exceptional graphics with high shelf impact in a difficult printing format.

Ampac‘s flexographic 8- to 10-color process printed design uses a urethane ink system. The result was a high-definition quality print pouch that was both for use and commercially viable.

The Tesco pouch also won an American Package Design Award from Graphic Design USA, New York. The contest rewards packaging, POP and related products that are visually attractive and feature designs that advance the brand and forge an emotional connection with the purchaser. The matte look and style of the pouch has a high shelf impact and replaces the more traditional rigid formats for retort soups.

“The Tesco finest soup pouch is a departure from traditionally produced retort pouches in that it was printed using a flexographic press,” says Hansruedi Häberli, general manager of the Kirchberg facility. “This was a high technical achievement and resulted in exceptional graphics that represent the quality of the product and the store brand on the retail shelf to consumers.“
