Oregon Business magazine recently named Henningsen Cold Storage Co. as one of the state's "100 Best Companies to Work For." The magazine uses employee and management surveys to develop its annual 100 Best special issue. Henningsen, based in Hillsboro, Ore., was ranked No. 30 in the "large business" category. Henningsen is a full service, multi-temp logistics provider with more than 42 million cubic feet of space at operations in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.

Retail supercenter operator Meijer Inc., Grand Rapids, Mich., expects this summer to complete a $27 million expansion at its multi-temp distribution center in Newport, Mich., according to a report by Industrial Info Resources. In its 2009 project announcement, Meijer said the site handles meat, produce, dry grocery and frozen foods for more than 45 area stores. The addition boosts total facility size to nearly 1.2 million square feet, officials said.

The World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO) said it appointed Dr. Barbara Rasco, a professor in the School of Food Science at Washington State University, to the group's scientific advisory council (SAC). Officials said SAC provides critical food science and food safety advice to companies in all sectors of the cold chain industry, including public refrigerated warehouses, transportation companies, and others.

Rasco's research interests include the development of analytical methods to predict the safety and quality of food products, characterizing microbial cell injury resulting from cold storage and processing treatments, and predicting antioxidant retention in processed foods. WFLO, Alexandria, Va., is affiliated with the Global Cold Chain Alliance.
