Supplier Shorts: Vilter, Multivac, Dematic, Crown in the news

March 24, 2011

SUPPLIER SHORTS

Emerson Climate Technologies, Inc., St. Louis, said its Vilter Manufacturing LLC business opened a $2 million technology and innovation center at its Cudahy, Wis., headquarters. Officials say the new facility helps Vilter meet new energy efficiency standards, such as the California Energy Commission's Title 24 .
“The single screw compressor's growth in popularity over the past 20 years can be largely attributed to its technical advantages and wide range of capabilities in the process gas and industrial refrigeration industries,” said Wayne Wehber, vice president of business development for Vilter. “Our customers have high performance standards that our compressors consistently exceed. The opening of our new technology and innovation center will allow us to continue to create innovative solutions that expand the range of performance and efficiency.”

Global food packaging equipment supplier Multivac Group, Wolfertschwenden, Germany, said it has begun celebrating the company's 50th anniversary. Sepp Haggenmüller created the thermoform packaging business in 1961 by  in Böhen in the Allgäu. Today, Multivac has more than 3,000 employees worldwide. The company's U.S. operation is Multivac, Inc., a Kansas City, Mo., manufacturer of thermoform fill-seal rollstock packaging solutions, vacuum chamber systems, tray sealers, shrink tanks, and both cross-web and inline labelers for food, medical and consumer product applications.

Two material handling equipment companies are collaborating on a new line of products they say will improve warehouse and distribution center productivity. The partnership involves material handling systems supplier Dematic, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Crown Equipment Corp., a New Bremen, Ohio-based forklift supplier. Officials say their first new offering is LaserTrucks+, an integrated solution combining Dematic's picking and voice software suite and automated guided vehicle (AGV) guidance technology, applied to a Crown PC 4500 Series rider pallet truck.

Tim Quellhorst is Crown's senior vice president.

“One of the most common themes we hear from our customers is a desire to utilize technology to make their warehouses more productive," he says. "We believe emerging technologies will provide opportunities for our customers who want to implement scalable elements of material handling automation. Our alliance with Dematic is another step in this direction for Crown that helps us fill an existing gap in the global marketplace with a fully integrated pallet truck system for order picking. As some facilities move toward automation, the LaserTrucks+ offering from Dematic is a viable solution that leverages one of our most technologically advanced lift trucks.”
