Tyson Foods Inc., Springdale, Ark., announced Friday it is consolidating some of its prepared foods business.

Tyson said it will close its York, Neb., plant, eliminating 110 jobs. The company said it will shift the work to one of its other meat-processing operations.

"Given the dynamics of the meat business, we must continually pursue ways to operate more efficiently," said Roy Slaughter, vice president of Tyson's poultry and prepared foods division for Tyson, said in a press release. "After careful consideration, we have decided it will be more efficient for another, larger operation to absorb the work done at York."

The York plant produces uncooked meats, sliced beef and pork items for various retail and foodservice customers. Tyson plans to move some of the York plant's equipment to its Emporia, Kan., facility.
