Butterball Revamps Smoked Turkey Sausage

The new rope sausage will replace the current offering in grocery stores across the U.S. and international markets.

September 9, 2025

Butterball, the best known and most loved brand of turkey in the U.S., has rolled out a new rope smoked turkey sausage.

The new rope sausage will replace the current offering in grocery stores across the United States and international markets. The change was made in response to consumers’ perception of the shape, taste and nutritional value of the sausage.

“Our research indicated consumers were seeking a more craveable smoked turkey sausage with less salt and a more premium look,” said Ana Haynes, CPG brand manager for Butterball. “We applied our learnings to create a delicious product with less sodium that’s juicy, has a robust, smoky flavor and looks great on the shelf.”

As summer comes to an end and the school year and tailgate season ramps up, Butterball’s smoked turkey sausage is a great choice for an easy weeknight dinner or weekend gathering.

“Our rope sausage is a people pleaser and perfect for any occasion – it’s quick to prepare and a versatile protein that can be grilled, sautéed and cooked in the air fryer,” Haynes said. “It’s also low in fat and complements many recipes.”

The new smoked sausage will be transitioning onto shelves through the end of the year.
