Juicy Lucy Expands to More Markets

As grills begin to light up, the famous Juicy Lucy is landing in retailer freezers in the nick of time.

This famous one-of-a-kind burger got its start in Minneapolis bars back in the 1950s, but LA-based Juicy Lucy, Inc. felt the entire nation deserved to indulge in this Midwestern treasure.

In 2025, it began introducing the frozen cheese-stuffed hamburger patties at select Target stores in the Upper Midwest. But now, shoppers can now find Juicy Lucy varieties at select Target stores in additional markets California, Arizona and soon Utah, and Harris Teeter stores across North Carolina and South Carolina.

“This is our way to honor this best-of burger, and we believe the more people who can enjoy a Juicy Lucy, the better, so we are working hard to get it to more burger lovers across the US,” said Aldo Lanzillotta, chef and co-founder of Juicy Lucy Inc, co-host of “Compete to Eat” and guest chef on Bravo’s “Best New Restaurant.” “We’ve got more ideas too; the Juicy Lucy experience will soon include more signature recipes, sure to be a hit with grillmasters everywhere.”

The Juicy Lucy burger has been featured in national media, including Time and on “Man v. Food” and” Food Wars,” both on Travel Channel.

Tracking back to the 1950s, two Minneapolis bars, roughly three miles apart, claim credit for the Lucy’s origin. Matt’s Bar, which spells it Jucy Lucy, and 5-8 Club, which spells it Juicy Lucy, boast they brought the unique concept to customers more than 70 years ago.

That in mind, the Juicy Lucy has been on the menu at the iconic Hollywood roadhouse bar, Barney’s Beanery, and its sister restaurants, for decades. It’s a way to honor a classic, according to Barney’s co-owner David Houston, who is also co-founder of Juicy Lucy Inc.

“It’s one of the best burgers around and has been very popular at our restaurants,” Houston said. “People come in just for that burger. So, it’s been a terrific opportunity to bring that bar magic to the grocery freezer aisles and sales show we nailed it.”

Barney’s Beanery is a 100-year-old staple in the Los Angeles dining scene. Over the decades Barney’s has been a truly unique bar in LA where celebs and non-celebs mingle, dine, and wait in line to slide into their favorite booth. And the bar’s Juicy Lucy is a staple that keeps fans coming back.

Houston noted that the burger phenomenon is evolving, and it’s meant an expansion of markets and soon an extension of the flavor varieties for the beef and cheese legend.

The Angus burger patties are available in two varieties: Cheese-Stuffed and Jalapeño Cheese-Stuffed, both appealing to burger aficionados whether they prefer a simple burger to one with lots of fixings.

These are the first frozen Juicy Lucy burger patties on the market. Each package has six 5.3-ounce patties and each burger boasts 26 grams of protein. Directions call for the Juicy Lucy to be cooked from frozen, preferably on a grill, but an air fryer or stovetop skillet works too.
