Beef processorFPL Foods LLC, Augusta, Ga., said it will close its West Columbia, S.C., plant at the end of January, only eight months after opening the facility. FPL Marketing Director Steve Hixson told South Carolina'sState.comthat economic woes forced the decision. The West Columbia site supplied ground beef to regional restaurants and retailers. Hixson said production will be transferred back to Augusta.
