Bakery food and ingredients giantDawn Food Products Inc., Jackson, Mich., plans by September to close its frozen muffin and cinnamon roll plant in Crown Point, Ind., according to the Associated Press. Company officials said the move was necessary to increase efficiency and that the plant's operations would be move elsewhere. The Crown Point location employs about 160 workers.
TheMassillon (Ohio) Independentreported that local meat processorFresh Mark Inc. expects by November to complete a Phase II, 70,000-square-foot addition to its operation there. The news comes as Freshmark completes a 20,000-square-foot Phase I addition that began last fall. Freshmark supplies smoked and processed bacon, ham, wieners, deli and luncheon meats, dry sausage and other specialty meat items to the retail and foodservice channels. The company also has plants in Canton and Salem, Ohio.
